Catral is completely surrounded with traditional garden composed by lands dedicated to the culture of citrus fruits, cereals and vegetables. Though already it is not a question of the principal economic activity, it continues being the activity that shapes her landscape.
A complex network of irrigation which dates back of the Arabic epoch, bathes the fertile lands that remain green on the greater part of the year. The traditional plains of the Vega Baja were included in the European’s catalogue of preserved landscapes.
Distant only 15 km from the coast, in a question of minutes the precious green landscape of the country side is transform into the sunny sandy beaches of La Marina(sea coast).These paradisiacal beaches with several kilometres of thin sand, dunes and pinadas are preferred by the Catraleños to pass the summer days and the
Easter under the agreeable shade of the pines. Only 2 km from the urban area you will find the Natural Park “El Hondo”. This Marsh is formed by several lagoons that belongs to the former large salt – water lagoon of Elche.The great diversity of birds that nest in this place has done that is catalogued by the international agreement RAMSAR as “Zone of Special Protection of the Birds”. Our region is a marked Mediterranean climate which favours all kinds of activities outdoors and nautical sports. In a few kilometres to the surroundings you would find several golf courses recognized internationally. Horse ride, airfields for small aircraft, balloons are different activities that could be realized in our environment.
